We have made some changes for the upcoming winter to increase the quality of our instruction and the performance gains our athletes will see.
All skill programs will begin with two private lessons before small groups start. We will then schedule three more private lessons throughout the winter as one-on-one checkups.
TOTAL SESSION FORMAT
No more guesswork, only a few stipulations. Just pick the total amount of weekly sessions in your package, and you're all set.
MORE FOR YOUR DOLLAR
Our prices haven't changed but we've stripped out all the extras so that you will get more training sessions in your package compared to last year.
HOW TO BUILD YOUR PACKAGE
The options below are for athletes ages 12 and up. For youth options, scroll to the bottom of this page.
Choose a program combination. Our most popular combination is a "Five-Session" program - three sessions of strength training paired with two skill sessions per week.
Example: Hitting, Strength & Pitching.
Choose the amount of weekly sessions for each skill. Two is the minimum for both pitching / throwing / hitting programs and three is the minimum for strength training.
Example: 2 Hit + 2 Pitch + 3 Strength
Add the total weekly sessions to get a grand total. This is your session count and determines your package's price.
Example: 2 Pitch + 4 Strength = 6 Session package
Submit the enrollment Form. In the message field, please indicate days during the week that work best for you, along with time blocks. We try to layer sessions on the same day (pitching group followed by strength training, for example).
Example: My young athlete is able to attend any of the following nights: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday. Any time between 5:30-8:30pm works well for us.
Programs begin with private lessons the week of Oct.17th.
Skill Group sessions begin the week of Oct. 24th and end Feb. 18th, 2017 with two exceptions below...
*Youth Strength & Softball Throwing Programs Begin Oct. 17 and end Jan.19th.
*Payment Plans Are Available! We usually break up the total cost into 4 equal installments, and we are flexible. Credit card autopays are also an option.
The Warbird Method of strength training stresses injury prevention and sport-specificity, but also old-school strength exercises. Our athletes learn how to lift from the ground up, starting at a resistance level that is appropriate and progressing as they learn and improve technique and strength. Rotator cuff, core, lateral hip hamstring and forearm are especially stressed for baseball and softball players.
Hitting is hard. It gets harder when hitters get lost in the minutiae. We make it easier by establishing a solid understanding of what makes a "good swing" and the best drills to reinforce good habits. Once we've covered the components of the swing, we look at how to maximize power, time our swing appropriately, hit all pitch types in all parts of the zone, self-diagnosis ourselves when problems arise, and how to establish an approach at the plate that fosters big results on the field.
Our pitching program is progressive and stresses improving mechanics, improving the spin of the fastball, changeup and breaking ball (if applicable), the mental approach to pitching, how to call effective pitches, how to hold baserunners, windup and stretch mechanics, and how to self-diagnose problems mid-season and mid-game. We are current on all throwing injury research and teach mechanics and throwing volumes in accordance with ASMI guidelines.
SOFTBALL OVERHAND THROWING PROGRAM
One of our specialties is the overlooked aspect of overhand throwing in softball players. We work with girls to improve use of their hips and core and to improve their footwork and arm action. Dramatic improvement can be expected by doing our softball winter program with us - we see large gains in both accuracy and velocity, while reducing arm pain and soreness.
Learn how to block, receive, and throw like a high-level catcher. It's not easy being the general of the baseball or softball field, so practice makes perfect. Beyond the physical aspects of the job, athletes in the catching program will learn the fine details and mental aspects like framing, pitch-calling and handling the pitching staff.
For the winter of 2016/17 we will not be offering youth baseball or softball skill groups. For athletes under age 12, it simply becomes too difficult to make the progress we want you to see for your dollar in a group setting. For athletes under age 12, please consider private lessons.
Youth Strength Training will still be offered, which runs Oct. 24 - Jan. 19. We typically continue on with youth strength from Jan.19 and beyond if demand is there.
